Mr. and Mrs. John H. Lund, parents of Hilmer Gerald Lund, were notified that their son, Staff Sergt. Hilmer Gerald Lund, a flight engineer and gunner in the air corps of the United States armed service was killed in action December 20 in the Western European area.

The telegram received shortly afternoon was from the adjutant general.

Sergeant Lund, 23 years old, entered the service last March. He was graduated from William Chrisman high school and completed a course of the American School of Aeronautics in February before he entered the service. While a high school student, he was employed at the Independence Examiner office and from the time of his graduation until he entered the aeronautical school, he was employed as a drill press machine operator at the Vendo Company, 2500 Washington.

Besides his parents, he leaves his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Jobe, 3429 East Ninth Street, his grandmother, Mrs. John A. Lund, two brothers, Frank, Lund and Robert Lund and a sister, Miss Elma Lund of the home.
