Dear Will:
Thanks for your letter about the formation of the 44th Veterans Association and an invitation to join it. It sounds like a great organization, but my service in the 44th was so brief that I have very little memory of it.
I joined the 44th Group at Tampa in the spring of 1942, but was transferred to the 90th Group when the 44th Group was divided to form new groups shortly after the move to Shreveport. We went to the Southwest Pacific in August 1942 and I spent three years in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines.
As you can see, my memories of the service are with the 90th Bomb Group, known as the Jolly Rogers, and the Southwest Pacific campaigns, so I am declining your invitation. If you hear of a 90th Group Veterans Association, I'd appreciate an address where I could contact them.
Good luck in your efforts to continue the 44th Veterans Association.
Sincerely,
Robert B. Langford
