ALAN C. GRAHAM|
World War II
Memories and Biography
(Taken from a letter to Will Lundy)
285 Maplewood Ave., Apt. 9K
Bridgeport, CT 06605
May 20, 1987
The above address is my "working" address. I still have a wife, dog and daughter at 3 Lakeview Drive, Newburgh, NY 12550. You may write to me at Bridgeport, however.
My copilot was Samuel Kent Howard and I lost track of him immediately after September 1945. He did live in Salt Lake City [found him].
The last I heard from Bill Stoeffel he lived in New Jersey. No contact in years.
(If I can get time, I will search out old Christmas cards and address lists. My wife keeps them all and book for last known addresses).
My complete crew was:
Alan C. Graham, pilot New York state
Samuel K. Howard Utah
William Stoffel, navigator New Jersey
Wayne Parker, bombardier ?
Paul James, engineer New Jersey
Harry Shaak, radio PA
Alton, Stinson, gunner Texas
Wilson Blue, gunner Ohio
Phillip J. DeFatta, gunner LA
Edward Hopper, gunner Maryland
Have had no contact in recent years except Harry Shaak - last time in 1984.
Just talked to my wife and she said we will look this weekend!!
My son, Alan Jr., is career Air Force, and was stationed at Norton AFB and George AFB, through 1983 or 1984 and lived in Redlands. He is now stationed at Langley Field, a full colonel, and lives in Hampton, VA - a non-flyer colonel.
Too bad we didn't have your address when we visited there a few years ago (in California, that is).
The names Ketchem and Spenser seem to ring faint bells in my memory, but nothing really comes out. I do have a 44th bomb group book at home, mostly photos, done by the group photographer in 1945-46. I forget his name too, but it is in the book and I'll send it to you, along with any addresses we can find.
Thanks a lot for putting my address on the 44th Heritage Memorial Group mailing list - have not received anything yet.
It was good to hear from you.
